#REF! error

I got a #REF error which actually doesnt seem to be an error to me.. The following happens: cell A1 e.g. refers to C:\Dashboard\[Dashboard v1.0.xls]Dashboard'!A1.

Now I want to replace [Dashboard v1.0.xls] by [Dashboard v1.0 July.xls]. This should result in cell A1 refering to C:\Dashboard\[Dashboard v1.0 July.xls]Dashboard'!A1. This is indeed a real spreadsheet so it should work.
However, for every cell I replace I get this #REF error and when I doubleclick it I need to manually look up the Dashboard v1.0 July.xls file so the cell actually recognizes this file.

Is there any way to avoid getting this #REF error? Your help is greatly appreciated!!!

So long,

Polly

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
Which version of Office? Cannot recreate the problem using 2007.

That only happens to me if I mistype the file name, path or sheet name. Have you double-checked the spaces etc?
