Hi, all,

Is there an easy technique available to resize a bunch of "jpg"files?
They are all about 1 Mb. Reducing the size is the goal.

50%width, 50%height= result would be about 1/4Mb

I'm quite sure that it could even be done using Excel :-)
But would like to use something else this time.

thanks for any input,
Erik

running Windows 98SE

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
Hi Erik

Any image manipulation programs will let you save down the jpg again (and recompress the file) which will potentially reduce the file size significantly (and will reduce the quality). I use The Gimp (it's Open Source) - you can download it at Download.com.

Thanks, Richard :-)
Happy to see you here!

I'm using "Microsoft Photo Editor" or could even use "Paint" to reduce the files. But that's one by one.
I will look at Gimp. Perhaps my question was not so clear, I would like it to reduce the whole set of files at once. Just telling what to do with them and then "run".

Like in VBA Excel it would be

DO
Paste picture
Reduce the size
Save the Picture
Delete it from Excel sheet
LOOP

thanks again!!
Erik

EDIT:
PS: I see something about "scripting" there

Downloaded Gimp 2.4.5
Editors review states
Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista, GTK+ Runtime Environment
but when doubleclicking the "exe" file, I get
at least windows NT required

do I miss something?
(apart from a windows update :-) which I do not want)

best regards,
Erik
