Hi,

I have been working on a model and cannot figure out how to reduce the size of the file. There are several index/match functions running, but even after I pulled out about half of them, my file size only decreased slightly.

Attached is the file. Anything to help (or explain the root cause) would be very helpful and appreciated.

Here is a link to the file:

Thank you!

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
how big is it (i'm guessing not too big if you can cloud host it), what version excel, what file extension

Hi,

I may be missing something, or you may just have "dirty" sheets.

When I clicked CTRL+SHIFT+END, I get Row 13713, Column XEJ for TEST sheet, with a majority of those rows and columns containing un-meaningful data, mostly just blank cells with borders and lines.
And I get Row 1411, Column L for TEST 2 sheet, with blank rows from row 1004 on.

So maybe you just need to delete all these garbage rows and columns.

The file is about 22 MB. When I add it back to the rest of the model, it is about 35 mbs. Causing a lor of issues form my Mac Excel.

I tried deleting everything past rows 12713 and columns and to the right of columns BL but to no avail. Other ideas? Lots of Index Match fuctions. Do you think that might be doing this?

jtakw said you have a lot of apparently poorly used space, this needs to be minimised if a tall possible, and the LAST CELL will need to be reset for every sheet, save the file and reopen, then maybe save as xlsb (if not already) and check your size. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/244435 may assist

Wow! Brilliant. It worked. Thank you! I have not idea how all those cells became part of the sheet, but now that I cleared them, the file size went from 33 mb (on the full file) to 4 mbs.

THANK YOU!!!
