Recording long text notes in Excel

I have been told to set up a spreadsheet to track projects although I have explained Access would be more suitable. Currently we're using 2003, but moving to 2007 soon. I will have one row per project and will need a large text field to record notes. The Comment function will be too small and inputting to a cell will either mean a very long or very wide cell. I thought of inserting a hyperlink to a Word document. Can anyone recommend a better solution? Is there something new in 2007 that might be a solution?
Thanks

Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
I guess I'm missing something. Comments can be resized, but if you want the text to be legible all at once, whatever you put it in is going to have to be wide and/or tall, whether it's a cell or something else. If it doesn't need to be legible all at once, you can just put it in a cell.
Either way, I would tell whoever's in charge that Excel is really not designed to work with large amounts of text and reiterate that you should be using a database! :)
