Re: Open and view external file

Hi Everyone

Can anyone help with the following:

Is it at all possible to place a file location into a cell select this cell and open and view file then return to Excel.

ie say I wanted to access a PDF or Word file view contents then return to Excel and close the file used ?

Example

C:/Documents/School_Information_Sheet.pdf

Many thanks

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Re: Open and view external file

Insert > Links > Locate file using dialog box and click ok.

Click the link in the cell to view.

Close the file and Excel is still there.

Re: Open and view external file

No problem. I've gotten plenty of help so it's nice to give back.

The Insert Hyperlink dialog will also allow you to give the link a custom name. Change the "Text to display:" field to whatever you like and it won't display a long and meaningless path. It could display "School Info" or "Click Here" or "Read Me"... or if you want your users to click it for sure give it an irresistible name (i.e."clickbait), something like "Click here to be Amazed!". You're only limited to text and your imagination.

Cheers,
