Re: Locked cells are still editable even though not in "Allow user to edit ranges"-range.

I have same issue. I tried many times to Format cells > Protection > Check "Locked" box, but still allow me to edit.

I want to ...

A) Password protect ranges $A:$I, $O:$P, and $J$1:$N$2 so only I can edit these
B) Password protect $J$3:$J$2002 for user 1 to only edit
C) Password protect $K$3:$K$2002 for user 2 to only edit
D) Password protect $L$3:$L$2002 for user 3 to only edit
E) Password protect $M$3:$M$2002 for user 4 to only edit
F) Password protect $N$3:$N$2002 for user 5 to only edit

Note:

I tried to "Allow Users To Edit Ranges" and protect but does not stick

B, C, D, E, and F have conditional formatting (color change) and also have Data Validation List (YES, NO, N/A)

Sometimes A works OR B-F works (not both) but after save and close then reopen file, none are protected again. Even added permissions to specific users in "Allow Users To Edit Ranges" and protect but does not work either.

Please help.

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.

Did you protect the sheet before you tried editing the cells? The cell protection starts when you protect the worksheet.

Yes that worked.

Thank you
