rank filter in a table doesn't work

Here's a little table. Id like the formula in the first cell in rank to work:
Excel Formula:
'=rank([@a],FILTER([a],[g]=[@g]))
I tested this with sum
Excel Formula:
sum(filter([a],[g]=[@g]))
and it worked fine. I'm using mac excel though. Maybe I have to use a real excel?

The reason it won't work is that RANK cannot handle an array-function as the ref argument, whether it's an Excel Table or not.

I suggest that you update your Account details (or click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

How about
Excel Formula:
=COUNTIFS([g],[@g],[a],">"&[@a])+1
