Hi. I wonder if you could help me about a formula I need for an excel file. I suppose it isn't too hard, but my excel knowledge is pretty poor.

I'm going to give you an example. To save myself some trouble in explaining what I need (it would be bank-related, specific stuff), the example will be something simpler I just came up with now.

Let's imagine I work on a Zoo, and I have an excel row for each animal that is born.

This row has 2 columns:

In column A, I have the newborn's species (lion, tiger, penguin, bear, chupacabra, etc.).

In column B, I have the animals' names (Hobbes, Simba, Jaws, Tony, Brian, Steve, etc.).

What I need, is a cell which counts the total of penguins (and only penguins) who were given the name Steve - this Zoo doesn't have much imagination about names, so let's imagine there's a bunch of them.

Can anyone tell me which formula do I have to use?

Much obliged.

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
Glad you sorted it & thanks for the feedback
