Hello. Firstly, I apologise if this is the wrong place to ask. I can't seem to find online about this question so I was hoping since excel delves around these areas, I was hoping some people could give insight about them.
Without revealing too much, basically my main question, is there a drawback from diverting data from trendlines to using mean and standard deviation?
Basically, I have a set of data, and we are hoping for a positive trendline, unfortunately, the reality shows with past history that it is negative. The 2nd idea was to use mean and standard deviation instead, which from there could be tweaked towards a more positive growth.
Hence my question, is it ok to ignore trendline and focus instead on mean/standard deviation? Regardless that the reality shows the data is negative via trendline?
