Question about Borders

I made a timeline of sorts in excel to keep track of events. Each Column is a date and each row is a location. If an event is happening for 5 days at said location the corresponding cells will change color, borders will appear, and the event will be labeled within the first colored cell. The left border is green and the right border is red to represent start and stop. Some events overlap each other. When this happens, sometimes the red border will no longer appear. I figured out this is due to the text over flowing from a cell. Is there a way to have the text still overflow from a cell and still show the border?

tl;dr: Is there a way to have the text still overflow from a cell and still show the border?

Cheers

Excel Facts

Why not just set all your columns to autofit or word wrap, then the the borders should show.

Then you other option is to put data in the adjacent cells. But when you do that, it truncates the text for the cell on the left.
