I have a standard letter, information such as the address is pulled over from mail merge. Is it possible to restrict amendments to the body of the text but allow the user a block of space to add there own information.

Back into an answer in Excel
Use Data, What-If Analysis, Goal Seek to find the correct input cell value to reach a desired result
Try creating a form. Go to View > Toolbars > Forms and add some form fields like a textbox where the end user can add some text. Then click the little "lock" icon on the toolbar to protect the form from editing.
