Hello again,
I use ADO to transfer data from excel to an access database.
Is there a way to protect the records in the table against accidental deletions?
Thank you

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Done lots of reading on security since I posted this question and I would like to rephrase and make things clearer:
Is there a way to deny permission to delete records in a table... (similar to permissions in a form) ?
Thank you.

Have you looked at Tools>Security>User and Group Permissions...

There you can set the permissions for the objects in the database.

Hello Norie,
Thanks or your reply... not sure if I understand the security measures in access but I cannot protect the databaseas it has to be "open" at all times. We keep populating the table through excel using ADO.
I read about permission to delete but it appears that this is applicable to "forms" and there is no mention to "tables"... there are no "forms" in this database.
What I hope for is like this:
If a user tries ti delete a record in the table then the system would ask for a password.
Is this doable?
Thanks,
Nick

I don't fully understand the security myself and I've never really used it.

Do the users actually need to have access to the table?

Why not create a form based on the table and set appropriate properties to deny deletion?

You can also hide the table and you can also hide the database window.

I will try Norie hoping that this will not interfere with the transfer of data from excel to the database.
Will post results.
Thanks again,
Nick
