Protect a particular column in Excel

How can we protect a particular column in excel?

If you have not made any changes to any cells, then by default all cells are already checked marked to be locked. Select a cell and right click...format cells. Go to the protection tab and you will see a box to check for locked. If you uncheck that box then when you apply protection that cell/row/column will be unprotected.
