Profiles

I recently noticed that my profile cannot be viewed unless someone is logged into the website. Was there a reason for that? Would it be possible for users to have a public page so they could put it on their profile elsewhere?

To give you an example of what I had in mind, stackoverflow has this. Now I realize that might be more that we can do. But I would at least like to be able to give a link that works
