Problems while working with large excel file

Hi everyone,

I work with MS Office 2010 running on Windows 7.
I have a relatively large excel file (53MB), which has 9 worksheets and a lot of data with a lot of linked cells and formulas. I am not sure that I can make this file any smaller.
I got to the point when if I make any tiny addition to the file and try to save it, I receive the following notification:
"EXCEL CANNOT COMPLETE THIS TASK WITH AVAILABLE RESOURCES. CHOOSE LESS DATA OR CLOSE OTHER APPLICATIONS."
I have already tried the following:
1. Changing the priority to High for Excel in the Task Manager;
2. Removing all the files from C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel;
3. Running the Disk Cleanup;
4. Closing all the applications but Excel;
5. Trying to run the file on a workstation with 8GB RAM.

No success so far.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and have a nice day!

Alex

Excel Facts

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
Now I did...
The file size is much larger now (220 MB), but it works! Thanks!!!
But I'm not familiar with XSLB format - except for the fact that the data (to my understanding) is binary coded and therefore the file is larger, does it have any limitations? Should I proceed working with XLSB now? When do I need to convert to XLSB?

It shouldn't be bigger with xlsb, without exception every file I've ever seen is smaller when saved as binary. I think there's something else going on with your workbook - I think you need to review the whole thing along with the structure

Thanks a lot guys! (Special thanks to Kyle123)
It seems like the convertion to XLSB solved the problem.
Thanks again and have a short week and a wonderful weekend :)
