Problems retrieving text stings longer than 2048 characters from PowerPivot

Hi,

I currently have a PowerPivot model where most of the data comes from a SQL-query.

The data is retieved without problem into the PowerPivot-model, but when I try to get the data from the model to excel (by creating a pivot table) text string longer than 2048 characters (2 kb?) gets truncated.

I've tried to pivot the data, retrieving it directly from SQL, and then no text strings gets truncated. So my best guess is that something is happening in the interface between Excel and PowerPivot.

Does any one have any idea what is going on, and if the the problems I am experiencing can be resolved?

Best regards,
Marcus

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
Hello again,

I still haven't find any way to retrieve my text strings from the Power Pivot model - does anyone have any ideas why this is so and how it can be resolved?

Best,
Marcus

Row fields or column fields, so that I can see all the text strings in a list. But the text is getting truncated.

Do you have any clues? I am guessing there is some property on the data provider grabbing data from the PowerPivot-model that is causing this behaviour.

Its not the charachters its the Row Height and Column Width limits thats cutting you off. The values are there. Copy the cell and paste it into word.

No, that´s not the case, the strings are really cut off. If I use the LEN formula on the cell I get 2048 when I retrieve data from the PowerPivot-model, but when I retrieve it directly from SQL I can get the full size (> 2048 characters).

Best,
Marcus

That's interesting I just did it. With 5,400 characters from SQL pulled through both powerpivot and sql. PowerPivot gave me only 2048 and Linked table gave me all 5,400. Has to be a limitation of powerPivot.
