I am wondering how to take a percentage or fraction or something that represents "probability" and receive a "true" or "false" statement.

For example, if I give the probability of 40% how can i have excel generate a true or false statement, or "yes" or "no"

I am not quite the mathematics genius so any help will do.

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Hello & Welcome to the Board,

This will look at A1 and if 40% then Yes or elso No.

=IF(A1=0.4,"Yes","No")

Thanks JeffreyBrown!

So, if I have cell A1 generate a random value between 1 and 10, then how do i have the function say:

if cell A1 is 1,2,or 3 then "yes" else "no"

You need an OR for that or an array...

=IF(OR(A1={1,2,3}),"Yes","No")

=IF(OR(A1=1,A1=2,A1=3),"Yes","No")
