Hi all,

I'm trying to predict the next value in a table of percentages, using Office 365.

Essentially my data is showing how many students need a certain type of support each year, and I want to predict the value for next year, following the increase trend from the last few.

Is this possible? Can Excel do this for me, or is this a manual back to basics maths job? Some are linear, nice and easy, some less so but it would be nice to know if it's something Excel can do for me in future

Welcome to the Board!

I don't know that 3 data points are enough to determine a trend, especially if you might have a scenario where it goes up one year and down another year (which is a very real possibility).
And one outlier could erroneously skew your results drastically.

If you go a Google Search on "how many data points needed to determine a trend", you will see many different answers with many different caveats/conditions. But most seem to suggest you need a double digit number of records (i.e. 10, 30, etc) to draw any sort of meaningful conclusion from the data.

In any event, have a look here at creating trend lines in Excel: Add a trend or moving average line to a chart - Microsoft Support
