Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody knew of a good powerpoint forum. I've searched around and haven't found anything great. MS has one but it doesn't seem to be very popular, imagine that. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Excel Facts

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
Unfortunately...

Unfortunately I don't think there is one that is better/more well read than the Microsoft forum.

You'll have noticed that the PowerPoint VBA is not as robust as any of the other packages. By SEVERAL factors.

It's still very much the runt of the litter. I know as I've programmed the presentation systems for some investment banks and it was a real pain in the ***.

Wish I could have been more helpful.

Can I ask a silly question? I know you can create macros in PowerPoint. But why? What would you create a macro to do in PowerPoint?

Looking forward to expanding my narrow thinking.

For large institutions that use PowerPoint as a selling tool they want to have a consistent look to strengthening the branding of their institution.

Using VBA helps to enforce formatting and color schemes.

Additionally, you do get into application problems depending how you link things between apps with Office (Imagine THAT!!!). You can use VBA to create a standard procedure on how you bring in graphs from Excel blah blah blah.

There's also bringing in live/updated data into live presentations as well...

Well that's interesting. I can see that. I mean, I can see companies needing that. Heck, the company I work for needs that! Our secretaries work very hard to standard the presentations we send them. I'm going to get acquaninted with some of the VBA posts here!

Thanks -- DJ

Well...

DJ:

Let me know if you think you might want to get some external help. I've done the presentation system for a bulge bracket investment bank, and I did another one for what is arguably the top private equity group in the world.

You could also just pick my brains. Just put an @ sign between the last two lines in my sig to reach me directly.

There's a bunch of things you can do in PowerPoint to standardize your presentations that doesn't really need a lot of automation. Just careful planning and creation of templates and insert slides.

On a side note: GO PITTSBURGH!!!! Steelers are back!!!!

ahem, sorry about that :)
