Hello,

I have a problem with a over sized spreadsheet (30MB XLSB) currently.
  • I have transformed some input files (connection only) into a single query called ZQM14 Output (loaded to data model). This has about 28,000 rows of data.
  • I then used PowerPivot to create 8 Pivot tables (all using the same ZQM14 Output). I noticed my file size had ballooned greatly!
  • I checked via VBA and found I had 8 Pivot Caches... when I was expecting to have 1.
Is this just how PowerPivot works?

I did previously try to Load 'ZQM14 Output' to the spreadsheet and create pivots from it, but the slicers operate very slowly. Using PowerPivot they are super quick, but my file size is too large (running out of system memory). I still have many more pivots to create, so would ideally be able to work with 1 pivot cache.

Cheers,
Caleeco

Using a mouse in Excel is the work equivalent of wearing a lanyard when you first get to college
in short
Pivot Table, Power Pivot and Data Model increase size of file each time you will create new PT, PP
8 Pivots from Data Model will increase file size almost 8 times
if you want to know why - call Microsoft

HI Sandy,

Thanks for replying. Haha i'll call Satya Nadella just now then :D

Seems like an odd behaviour, especially when the same model is being used.

Thanks for the info anyway
