PowerBi - Direct Querying into someone elses dataset

Hi all,

I have access to a number of different datasets within my organization using power query. I wanted to do some changes to it (add columns etc), and I'm pretty sure it is read only access, however can anyone please confirm it is the case before I do anything to it ?

Yes - that is the purpose of PQ. Any transformations you make in your query will not affect the original data source.

I'm enquiring about Direct Query and a dataset which is different to Power Query and Data Source.

Apologies - I misread the title. However, according to my current understanding that is still the case. Further reading if you haven't already seen. Also, check with the person who maintains the data in your organization to absolutely make sure.
