Power Query - Query vs. List Icon

Just wondering if anyone can elaborate on differences of files when I create a new query from an existing one. When I select a column and use add new query, it seems to create a list as the output. If I select a query and use Reference a query, it creates the output as another query. The icons are different. The former looks like a one column rectangular list and the later is the usual table looking icon with the blue line as the first header row.

Any references to a source that could explain the details and the difference of usage would be appreciated. Thanks!

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
The icon you get, depends on the type of output from the query.
A table column is a list, so you get a list with a list icon when you select a column and use add new query.
If the output of the query would be a single value, the icon would reflect the data type of that value.
Other types are possible as well, e.g. a binary, a record, a type, a parameter, etcetera.

Reference? I can only think of this one
