Hello,

At the very beginning of my Excel Power Query step after I connect to my source data, I see a column header called "Content" with "Binary" as its value. Next to the column header is two double down arrows. If I click that it will create Parameter 1 (Sample File), Sample File, Transform File, and Transform Sample File. This takes a little bit long once complete then I can see the my data.

However, if I don't click the two double down arrows and create a custom column and use Excel.Workbook ([Content]) it won't create those sample files like above and then I can see my data. This appears to be a lot faster.

My question - is it better to click the two double down arrows or create a custom column and use Excel.Workbook ([Content]) to extract the data? What's the difference? Will I have unforeseeable issues? Is the latter faster as far as performance and refreshing my queries?

Hello,

Have you tried to use the Query Diagnostics to determine speed and lags of applied steps.

If you haven't used it before go to the Tools tab in the Power Query Editor ribbon.

Here is an article for further information.

I’m using Power Query in Excel. I don’t think this is available In Excel. Anyway to time the speed of queries to see which performs faster/slower?
