Hi all,
Long time reader and book purchaser here. Thanks for an excellent forum.
I've run into a bit of a problem that I cannot find a good solution to.
I have built a reporting tool that (via Power Pivot) pulls information from several source files on our company network, and these are then merged and linked up.
All is working fine, and has for the last year, but now as the amount of users has grown an issue has popped up.
Whenever 2 people try to update the report at the sime time (just a standard simple data/refresh all), this opens the source files stored on the network on that users computer. This is annoying, but could live with it.
However, sometimes that user does not close these files, and this causes the report to be unable to refresh for any other user. The error message is then OLE DB or ODBC error: Failure creating file; 3436.
I then have to contact our IT department to find out which user has the file(s) opened, then contact the user etc.
Now to the question,
Is there no way to make power pivot refresh, regardless if there are more than one user trying at the same time? Like in the background?
I have seen some sites on the internet claiming that powerquery does not have this issue, but as this is a fairly large file with many hours invested in it, I'd rather not rebuild the whole thing from scratch again.
Thankful for any help.
