Power Pivot Issue

Hi, I'm new to the forum. this is my first post.

I have been trying to get started with power pivot. I have an excel workbook has several accounting formatted columns. When I load this workbook and others like it into power pivot, it changes one of those columns to TEXT format. This is useless to me cause I need to get totals etc from that column. I have checked and recheck the formatting on all those cells... none of them is general or text... and I have done this over and over again with the same result. The other accounting formatted columns come in great ... just that one is wrong??? I don't know what to do about this? Have you ever encountered this? Any Suggestions?

Does this column actually add up in your excel-workbook? (When importing these things, it could occur that your currency column comes in as text although being formatted as accounting)

Once they are in Power Pivot, will it let you flip to a numeric data type...?
