posting with < and >

A few times I've posted a formula on here and used the greater than or less than symbols and half of the formula is missing in the post. When I go to edit, it's still all there, but not shown.

Does anyone know why this happens and whether it can be overcome?
 
Hi. The workaround is to add a space either side of each < before clicking Submit.
 
Yes, those signs are being mistaken for HTML code. Putting spaces around then or using the Code tags usually takes care of that.
 
You can also type in > for a ">" and a < for a "<" in forums where the html is swiched on (it is off in this About forum)
 
If you are using the 'space' method, you don't actually need to add one before the < as adding one after is sufficient.
