Good morning,

I have just been trying to reply to a poster who was asking about how to add formatting to an Outlook message created from an a string in Excel.

The problem I have is that the code I wanted to post contained HTML tags which when posted here display the required output, rather than the code itself.

I can't email the OP from work due to internal security policies, and he probably can't wait until I get home tonight (it's 09:17 here).

Is there any way in which I can post VBA containing HTML tags in such a way that the code, rather than the result will be displayed?

Thanks in advance

Pete

You could use the boards HTML tags.

HTML:
<b>This is inside HTML tags.</b>

I found that within the PM option (pointy bracket button), but how do I do that within the main forum, as the button doesn't seem to be here.
Do I prefix it with "OpenSquareBracket "HTML" "Close SquareBracket" and end it with "OpenSquareBracket "/HTML" "Close SquareBracket" ?

You'll get the button when you goto Go Advanced.

Or you can just type them using the suffix/prefix you posted.

Norie - not quite there yet. I can successfully paste the code in by either method (thanks for the "Go Advanced" tip!), but the resulting posting loses all its line breaks, so everything goes in as one long string.
If you then try to re-edit that, you end up back with the values that the HTML produces, rather than the code itself.
I managed to PM the code to the OP and that seems to have worked, but it would be nice to be able post it directly to the board :(

Pete,

Out of curiosity, which browser are you using? I was having some posting issues in Internet Explorer, so I use Google Chrome for the most part now. If you are using IE, you may want to change to Compatibility Mode is see if that works better.

. Hello Pete
. This does not probably help you very much, but just in case….
. I have been “going crazy” for a couple of hours with HTML Code and Code Tags in MrExcel etc. ( http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/test-h...ing-html-tags-format-mrexcel.html#post3868502 http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/about-board/780464-re-text-format-forums-o00o-%60-_-%60-o00o-3.html http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/test-here/787925-code-tag-color-change-problem.html http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/test-h...g-html-tags-format-mrexcel-2.html#post3868696
. I usually just about get there now but I found it a bit of a minefield and a subject within itself!!
. My Threads above are a bit of a mess to say the least: I will try to summaries a couple of quick general points on the off- chance there maybe something that points you in the right direction…

. 1 You can get different results if you use different Browsers such as IE 9 or Chrome!! (Surprisingly The Older Internet Explorer 9 usually gives me better results)
. 2 When you paste in MrExcel you can get different results by using Ctrl V or by right mouse click and inserting that way!! This is mainly noticeable with Internet Explorer 9
. 3 Sometimes when you edit a Post in MrExcel strange things happen to the format (even if you do not change anything!!). I think you noticed that yourself
. 4 I tend to prepare what I write in WORD and then copy into Mr Excel. You get different results depending on a) wot format you are in in WORD . For example HTML Format or Unformatted Text and b) again you get different results depending on how you paste into MrExcel
. 5 Be careful that there is not a lonesome “Open pointy bracket” anywhere in text or code. That can cause interesting results when you copy into MrExcel!!
.
. Hope I have not confused you, - I went a bit “Crazy “ on this subject Today. I can do just about everything now… (But it was a bit trial and error – I take a break now , and then try to remember how I did everything!! )

P.s. I have not tried the “Go Advanced” at all jet…!!!

Joe4,
. I’ve just finished playing around with this Theme Today. ( http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/test-h...g-html-tags-format-mrexcel-4.html#post3869312

. I can do just about anything in Mr Excel with Code, HTML Tags etc now … (Including what Pete Rooney wanted to). But getting exactly what you want seems to be a "crazy" trial and error with different browsers and different methods of copying and Pasting (or right click inserting), with no obvious Logic!!!!
. My advice….. Keep lots of Browsers and just try trial and error before it works in your system. At least that is what I am going to do!. I’ve had enough of this Theme!!! – I want to get back to VBA!!
Good night

I have had the best success since I switched to Google Chrome. I have had very few issues since I switched. I don't really bother messing around much with HTML tags or themes or anything like that. I like to keep things simple.
