Earlier today when I tried to log on to the Message Board, a message appeared that stated my password was the same as my board name.

It further advised that since there has been a number of spam attacks recently involving passwords that are the same as board names, I should input my name and e-mail address in the boxes provided in order to find out how to change my password.

Hmm....

Instead, I closed the message window and changed my password in the normal manner.

Is there a problem here, or am being paranoic ?

No, I think its legit. Its part of the clean-up they were doing.

Don't blame you for changing it in the manner you did. That's the recommend way to do things on the net to make sure you aren't being scammed. Better safe than sorry! The important thing is that you did change it.

It *is* legit. You could either follow the link provided or, as you did, do it the normal manner.
As long as you've updated your password, all's well
