Please Help! Excel Organization Question

I need to use excel for an upcoming project at work. When using excel is there a way to assign a value to a term, and then move that cell to an appropriate table that corresponds?

For example:

I have four groups: Open, Potential, Closed, and New.

When I enter a column of data I want to be able to move the entire column to the appropriate category's table if it's status changes.

Something begins in New, then to Open and eventually either Potential or New.

Is this possible? Would I use VLookup?

Please help, I have used excel in the past but now need to utilize it.

Yes you can assign a value a name :

Formulas > Name Manager > Define Name

You could use a worksheet change event to move data when a certain condition is met:
Worksheet.Change Event (Excel)
