Pivot Table with drill down data

So I have a boat load of data that a client asked to make d

rill down. Here is what it is supposed to look like when the data is rolled up into their respective category:

The top 5 rows are the categories. Their totals represent the sums of all the records associated with that category.

I need to take this data:

and make it look like the image above in a pivot table so that when they click on one of the categories it will expand and show each record associated to that categories total.

I just need to know where to start. I have tried to select a row and click pivot table to get it to generate but I dont know which row I need to select. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
