Pivot Table Update with no source data still retains old data - Excel 2010

I am working in Excel 2010, and have a pivot table that is pointed to a worksheet where the data changes every week.

Sometimes there is data in the rows, and very occasionally, my report returns 'no data' - so my source data has column headers, but there is nothing for the pivot table to 'grab'.

When this situation occurs, and I look at the pivot table, I still see the 'Ghost of Data Past' - I expect to see no data in the pivot table, but I still see one old entry - just one record.........even if there is nothing in the source data worksheet. The chart that is based on pivot table results, then shows that there is '1' entry - falsely. I have tried deleting several rows in the original worksheet, but that doesn't help

How do I get rid of that one annoying row that is hanging on? I need to be able to show a chart that basically has nothing in it - so I can just put a text box in it saying 'No Data for this month' , or whatever.

I have tried marking 'number of items to retain per field' under "Retain item deleted from the data source' to 'None', but I still see that ghost in my pivot table. I can't 'Refresh' the pivot table because I get an error that says "This command requires at least two rows of source data." Unhelpful, to say the least.

I know it requires two rows of source data, but I have one row - the column headers - with no data underneath......Do I just have to delete the chart manually? Can't I just have the pivot table display 'no data'? This is making me very crabby -

Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.
