Pivot Table Question

I have a calculated item and a calculated field.

MS Help says the following: When a cell in the data area is the intersection of a calculated item and a calculated field, the formula for the calculated field overrides the calculated item formula.

Is there anyway to have the calculated item override the calculated field? If not I will have to start a long project.
