Pivot Table not properly grouping data

I have a structured table, and there are three different columns representing a monthly period in the format YYYYMM (201809). The first is system generated, the second column is a manually input override period, and the third is a formula that takes the latest of the two periods. When I click on the filter for the column that takes the latest of the two dates, the structured table apparently has no issues grouping the periods together appropriately. However, the PivotTable is not properly grouping the periods (looks like it's formatting them separately). I've tried changing the formatting, copying and pasting values, changing to numbers, etc. but the PivotTable is still unable to properly group The periods like the structured table can. Any assistance would be appreciated. I'm not able to post snips of what's happening and the data is confidential.....
