Pivot table interface

Hi,

I'm trying to make a single pivot table available to multiple users for a variety of purposes. I've tried a limited amount of training, but as soon as anyone hears the word 'pivot' they run scared...

I'd like to set up a user interface so that the pivot table doesn't look like a pivot table - some kind of reporting front end so people can select their options and press 'go'.

Does an application like this exist already?

If not I guess the way to go would be a userform? I've never done these before, though I do have a limited knowledge of VBA. Is there a useful (free!) online resource to get the basics on userforms?

Thanks

GD

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
It does sound like the tough way to do things. GD. And, welcome to the board.

I doubt anyone has written a simple to use pivot table interface because they would duplicate what is already provided by Microsoft. If they didn't duplicate everything it would be of limited value: if they did duplicate everything, then why do it?

I've found that the excellent, free on-line training at the DataPig Technologies site to be easy for anyone to use. Anyone who wants to learn, anyway. (If your users are afraid to learn new things they have bigger problems!!)

Well, a key question would be which version of Excel you're using. If it's 2003 and especially if it's 2007, then I second Fazza - it's not gonna get significanly easier than what's already there -- click the dropdown and pick what you want.

What I have done is to add certain custom menu option to the PT's right-click menu that will automate certain thing. However, if you are a newbie to VBA, that might prove to be quite a challenge.

And I too know of no Pivot-Table simplifying add-in(s). Your users can't keep using sippy cups forever, time for them to start using big-boy cups.

Hi Greg/Fazza,

Thanks, you've saved me a lot of time going down a dead end.

Back to the training board...

You're welcome, GD.

I've found users enjoy the DataPig site. It is first class.
