"Phantom links"

Hi everyone,
I often use links to external data to upload the data to my current workbook and than I delete the links to save the present values.
But sometimes the link cannot be deleted! I use Office 2010 and all the tools I found on this forum either involve Excel 2003 or are broken.
Can someone tell me how to remove these broken links to other workbooks? I searched all the cells in the workbook, all the objects and everything that can (even theoretically) contain a link but the phantom links still cannot be removed. I am 110% sure there is no cell or object that could be linked outside the workbook!
I am really unhappy about this although it is only a "cosmetic" problem - all the dialogs and automatic updates are off...
Thanks for any help with this!
