I am looking to extract data from PDFs. Ideally I would like some OCR to be able to get data out of scanned PDFs and would like to extract data from electronically generated PDFs. Does anyone use anything that really like or dislike.
I am conducting a concurrent search online but would like to solicit user experiences, both good and bad.

Cheers.

pdf extraction - Able2Extract (version 7)
OCR - OmniPage Pro (i use v15, but i think v17 is out)
batch scan to pdf or jpg - vueScan Pro v8.6

these are the best i could find over many years of experimenting.

Thanks, I take a closer look. Now if I can get IT buy-in....

I have really liked Monarch for this, but it is definitely not cheap. It is by far the best hands down that I have tried.

schielrn,
I had actually just heard of that software (Monarch) late last week! $800 is a lot of dough, but concidering that I once got one of the companies to buy the Adobe suite of software (photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign, yeah it was a few years ago), $800 for some productivity software shouldn't be much. The frustrating thing is I don't work for a small company which means that there are more issue they have to worry about for larger scale software products. Whatever...

Either way turns out out IT group has been sitting on some copties of Able2Extract and I was able to get a copy. Able2 should serve me for now, but I do like/perfer the other workflow features of Monarch and OmniPage.

Thanks folks for you suggestions, I have passed them on to out IT group to see if this software can be integrated into future plans.

Chrers!
