Paste Excel chart to PPT as standalone chart with own table

Dear all,

I'm trying to transfer a chart I created in Excel to Powerpoint, but pasting it as a Microsoft Office Graphic Object will link to the old Excel file. I want to cut the link, but still keep the data and the ability to modify them. Is it possible?

The most desirable outcome is the ability to automatically convert the existing link into a plain Excel table embedded in PPT.

The second most desirable outcome is to cut the link, however keeping the format of the chart (which is very important for me). Then I will manually recreate the data by making a new embedded Excel table.

However presently I cannot do either of these. Any ideas?

Thank you for your help!

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
If you Paste Special as Microsoft Excel Chart Object you get the options Paste and Paste link. Just choose the former.

Hi Andrew,

After so many years it's again nice to see you're the first to answer my posts (:

Regarding your suggestion, I indeed chose the "Paste" option then chose Microsoft Office Graphic Object. However when I right-click the graph in PPT and chose "Edit", Excel opens my original Excel file. Indeed, when I moved my original Excel file to another location then tries to Edit the chart in Powerpoint, it tells me:

"The linked file is not available. Use the Edit Links command to find the file"

Any ideas why this is happening?

If you Paste Special as Microsoft Excel Chart Object you get the options Paste and Paste link. Just choose the former.

Hi Andrew,

OK. After changing my excel file extension to xlsm I'm able to Paste as Microsoft Excel Chart Object.
However by doing so my entire Excel file is now embedded in the PPT.

I will have to paste several charts from several Excel files. Will my PPT file size explode due to this?

Can't Excel just keep the same chart and rearrange the supporting data in simple rows / columns, ignoring useless data contained in the same Excel file?
