Is it possible to password protect an Access database without setting-up logins and user security? All I want it to do is ask for a password to open the database. Once open, I do not want to place any restrictions on it.

dk,

Thanks. I tried it, and got odd results. It says that in order to Set a Database password, you must open the database exclusively. So I did that and set the password. Then I closed it. I reopened it, and it did not ask for the password. It only asks for the password if I open it exclusively. What am I doing wrong?

Never mind, I was accessing a copy in the wrong location.

A follow up question though:
If I have my database set up to compact upon close, why does it ask for the password again when I try to exit?

Hi jmiskey,

Whenever I compact a database, Access appears to close the database and then open it again, and in the act of opening database it wants a password.

Ah, makes sense. I guess that there is no way around that then.
