Hi,

I have a Vlookup the fails because it appears that Excel thinks the () are different characters. Is there anyway to handle this?

Thanks.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Hi,

They ARE different ... char(40) ... and ... char(41)

I realized the right and left are different characters I am talking about parentheses that have been copied in from other source.

The parentheses look exactly the same but Excel treats them differently

What is the ASCII code of the suspect parentheses?

Thank you for your help. I tried the =code to find it. I assume that is the correct action.

I get =40 on both.... so I assume the means they are the same. Something is making the vlookup fail, when I copy the parenthesis in it works, so I assumed that was it. I will keep looking.

It looks like it is the space. On the web copied value it is 32, but the excel value is 160. I guess I could to a find and replace spaces?

Thanks Mike - you have pointed me in the right direction. I now understand the non-breaking 160. I will have to have a helper column/sheet to fix this. What is strange is some of the spaces from the source are 32 and some are 160.
