Hello I am confused:

Page 12 in the above book shows some cell naming for
the formula in the excercise.

It asks the user to label (name?) the following cells:
In A1:[AH], B1:[A-] (the - seems to be a superscript)
and C1:Ka = 4.7 (the a seems to be a subscript)

in no way have I seen a way to label (name?) a cell using brackets and or sub/super scripts. Am I missing something here??? I am using Excel 2003. I can label/name with out brackets and sub/super scripts.

thanks,

Excel Facts

Test for Multiple Conditions in IF?
Use AND(test, test, test, test) or OR(test, test, test, ...) as the logical_test argument of IF.
Sorry for the confusion... Gerry doesn't suggest that you should use range names with those names. He is simply saying to enter some headings across row 1.

The heading in A1 would be [AH].

Here is the somewhat convoluted way to enter a superscript in a cell.
In Cell B1, type [A-].
In the formula bar, use the mouse to highlight the minus sign.
Type Ctrl+1 (That is Ctrl+One) to display Format Cells
In the Effects section, choose Superscript.
