Just four months ago, the views of my podcast asked if Microsoft could add exchange rates in addition to the stock data type. Breaking news: Excel will now provide exchange rates for currency pairs. Type in USDEUR and get the currency conversion from US Dollars to Euro.
This is an awesome improvement from the Data Type team in Redmond.

Learn Excel from MrExcel podcast episode 2274.
Exchange rates in Excel. Hey welcome back to MrExcel netcast.
I’m Bill Jelen and I just got back from a week at the MVP Summit.
Got to see a lot of my friends out there and boy, I have some amazing new features to share with you and I got to start with this one.
So, you know, stock data types in Excel.
It was just four months ago, episode 2250 that I showed this and I asked you, viewers said, what else do you think will make great data types and hey, shout out to Sal and David and Hector.
Exchange rate, currency pairs, winner, it happened.
Just four months later, the folks on the data type team have given us the ability to do currency pairs. Now look, I just got this yesterday, version 1904.
I downloaded the latest update and it was available to me, alright.
So it’s coming out to the Office Insiders. Here’s my currency pairs.
I go to stocks, they didn’t add a new data type for it and then here we will add price… Price like that and it gives us the exchange rate. We can also ask for—from currency, it is weird.
You would think they would have 2 currency, I guess that’s just inferred by the currency symbol there. But this is an awesome, awesome feature that they added.
I love that the data type team is still working still coming up with new ways to innovate.
And I love that, you know, just four months ago, people watching this channel suggested this.
I wrote it in, I sent it to the Excel team and bam, there it is.
I want to pass that on directly to you even though it’s a Saturday.
Hey, if you like the tips that I give here, please subscribe and ring that bell so you can get notifications about other new features that happen in Excel. I want to thank you for stopping by.
We’ll see you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.
