Is it possible to use Index/Match to create an Org Hierarchy? For simplicity sake I've put in a few columns.

So since the manager is Steve in B2, C2 would populate with Steve's manager (Marcia). A result of that D4 would populate with Marcia's manager (Andrew).

A1: Employee Name (John)
B2: Manager Name (Steve)
C3: Manager's Manager (Marcia)
D4: Manager + 2 levels (Andrew)

TIA

Hi,

Sorry I don't understand what you are looking for. Where do you want to pull the names from? What would be the output format?

Thanks for replying. I was able to figure it out on my own. I was looking to use the employee name and manager name to determine the next level(s) of reporting structure in the org. So who is my manager's manager, etc.

The relevant columns I have are:

D: Employee Name
E: Manager Name
F: Manager +1 Name: =INDEX(E:E,MATCH(E3,D:D,0))
G: Manager + 2 Name: =INDEX(E:E,MATCH(F3,D:D,0))
H: Manager + 3 Name: =INDEX(E:E,MATCH(G3,D:D,0))
