OpenOffice has a database application called Base. I just installed it recently but haven't had much time to mess with it yet. Just wondering if anyone has... and how it compares to Access.

And while on the subject of Access alternatives if anyone would like to recommend some they have tried that's cool too. I know FileMaker is a good one, especially with the Mac users.

Thanks,
Giacomo

Hi Giacomo,

I haven't been near Base yet so can't comment. I used FileMaker quite a bit at one stage, and like it -- particularly since they got "real" relationships in version 7.
I had a brief look at Alpha5 at one stage and it had some cool features, notably a very concise scripting language that was like VBA but less verbose.
I was forced to use Paradox at one stage and hated it. Even Lotus -- the developers -- seem to ignore it! Impossible to get any decent help / resources.
For the moment though, my DB of choice is Access.
