Opening xlsx with Xl 2003

Hi. I am having trouble opening xlsx with XL 2003. I have down loaded & installed the the FFconverter.exe.

I can open docx in Word but not xlsx. I downloaded & installed Openoffice 3.4 & this opens xlsx & then I saved it as xls & worked fine. I also opened the file with Kingsoft Office on my Android phone & saved it as well & also worked fine.

Any suggestions as to why my uptodate xl2003 cannot open the files?

You did not say that you have installed the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack.

Thanks for this but I have downloaded & installed the Compatibility Pack (FileFormatconverter.exe).
