Hi all,

When opening a file (e.g. an Excel file) from a webpage, is there a way to force the file to open in its application (as opposed to opening as a new page/window in IE)? I am running IE 6.0.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi, Bill. Yes, in fact there is, and it is not an Internet Explorer function; rather, it is a Windows function.

Enter Windows Explorer, select Tools > Folder Options from the menu, and select the File Types tab.

Scroll down until you find the applicable file type (i.e. XLS), select it, then click on the Advanced button.

Uncheck the Browse in Same Window box.

You can complete this for any application file type that is listed here (e.g. XLT, DOC, etc.).
