open excel file

i have new laptop macbook pro 13 (macos), i copy my old excel file created when my laptop was surface (window), when i try to open excel file the message appear (***.doc or ***.pdf file format is not valid) i am not select any word or pdf file to open by excel, and when i press ok excel open another file not selected by me, when excel open the message appear (update file link) if i choose update or not excel go to open another file and i cant reach excel so i choose to (force quit) to stop it
