eg is A1 cell value is "Dave" then macro opens "Dave.xls", etc

Also to activate based on same selection

Instead of windows("Dave.xls").activate , need Windows("activate whatever cell value of A1 is).activate

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
Try:

Workbooks.Open Range("A1").Value
Windows(Range("A1").Value).Activate

I think if you open a workbook it becomes active, so you probably don't need the second line.

Or you could use a Hyperlink in cell A1.
