Hi guys, i recenlty run into this problem, and i cannot find any solition (not even with Google)

For short version:
How can i make something like this: [Black]"otherstuff"[White]@
Is it possible?

For backround:
I have a cell value, lets say "somestuff" and i want to replace it with "otherstuff". Only this cell can be edited and this value comes from a software of us. So as far as i know, only condition format on the template file can do it.
I made a cond.format on cell value if the cell value is "somestuff": [White]"otherstuff: "@
Now please read the short version :)

Thanks for any advice!

Back into an answer in Excel
Use Data, What-If Analysis, Goal Seek to find the correct input cell value to reach a desired result
if A1 can be either fred or bill the first conditional format is =A1="fred" maybe color the cell yellow

the second conditional format is =A1<>"fred" and color that red

Thanks old, but not the solution.
I try to make it with examples:

Whats in A1:

Fred

What i want to see if A1= Fred:

Freddy

And only A1 conditional format can be modify, not other cell on the entire workbook, nor macros.

Excel exported from a software, and A1 value is "Fred" (or other names)
I want to see in A1, if the A1 value is "Fred" then "Freddy", with only conditional formating.
The problem is the software only capable to handle .xlt (excel template), therefore i cant add macro to change this value. Modifying the software could take months, and several external site cooperate. (this will be done if the conditional format cant do it)

then you need a table with names like fred in the first column and freddy in the second column

so in B1

=if(A1<>"fred","",vlookup(A1,mytable,2))

conditional formatting can only change the look of a cell - borders, color etc - not the contents

Yep, this is why i try to achive it with custom cell format in conditional format "[Black]"otherstuff"[White]@". This should leave the "Fred" in cell value, but with format the user could see "FreddyFred" (of course Fred will be white, but the custom format "Freddy" could be black)

B1 cannot be edited, other cells in the entire workbook is "locked"

Just now realized with money format would be more visual: So is it possible to change the cell value color (which is 25) looks like this
$25?
I really appreciate you helping me out :)
