Numbering Sequence

I need to create an automatic numbering system in my database that includes text and numbers. The format is like this, SNC-T-001. I need this field to automantically assign the next number when entering a new record. Can this be done without having to write a script to do it? If not, can you let me know what the script would have to say?

if the "SNC-T-" part is static than you could use Autonumber for the number part and just add the lettering for display.
