My plan (probably a poor one) is to create the North wind database from scratch. export the data from the tables into excel then build new tables in a blank access database and then import the data back into Access. then go about making the queries forms and reports. and i don't mean blindly copying the text I mean to understand as i go.my thought being that this will help me learn quite a bit about how it all works and fits together.

My question - is there anything that would prevent me from doing this, as in

"well Microsoft built the North Wind data base using ______ and then imported everything using ____, so you wont be able to ______"

I know its probably a dumb question but i thought i would ask before I get started.

Thanks for the input.

Who is Mr Spreadsheet?
Author John Walkenbach was Mr Spreadsheet until his retirement in June 2019.
Personally as it is all there I would probably just inspect each object in turn and try and understand the code.
I certainly know that I could not rewrite it from scratch, nor would really want to, but am happy to modify the code as needed.

You would still learn, just not have to write/copy the code. I believe reviewing it would give the same benefit?

You could also create a database of interest on any subject. Typical class projects however are often a business (products, inventory, sales). Also the perennial college database with classes, teachers, students, buildings and enrollment data (which I think is a good one since it involves building many-to-many relationships (students with many classes, teachers with many students, and the same for buildings/rooms with many classes).
